Manufacturers' Day Offers Sneak Peek into City’s Manufacturing Sector

Did you know that Berkeley has over 160,000 people working in manufacturing? While this is a fraction of the number of And starting October 2, Berkeley residents will get a glimpse of our hometown manufacturing industry with Manufacturers' Day.
Participants will have a chance to visit 3 innovative Berkeley manufacturers: Bay Area CoRoasters, a collaborative coffee roasting space, Meyer Sound, an audio system design and production lab, and The Rare Barrel, a barrel-aged sour beer brewery. These businesses are part of a group of manufacturers that have emerged or continue to thrive in Berkeley, where companies make products such as ukuleles, drones and pharmaceuticals.
This fun event is being organized by the City's Office of Economic Development to give residents a glimpse at the technologies, jobs and stories involved in manufacturing in our city. You must register by October 1st to participate.

More than 5% of the Berkeley workforce have manufacturing jobs. The largest local manufacturing sectors produce craft food and beverages and chemicals, such as the pharmaceutical company Bayer. There are almost 70 manufacturing businesses in West Berkeley, the city's most concentrated manufacturing district.
The City of Berkeley is part of the Bay Area Urban Manufacturing Initiative that works to promote and revitalize urban manufacturing in the region.
